She's all the way in Central America. Here she ensures that contact with all our suppliers runs smoothly, problems are solved and she supports where possible. Girl Power!
Mafer is our representative of WBE International. What does her average working day look like? She tells that in her interview. Read her full story below.
1. Tell us something about yourself (age, relationship, place of residence, etc.)
I am currently in a relationship; I live in Guatemala City (located in Central America); I love dogs, cats and horses; I am 43 years old.
2. What are your hobbies (besides working hard at WBE)?
I like reading books on different subjects, listening to music, experimenting with recipes for cooking and cocktails. I like to share moments with people I love. I also like to be involved in issues in my country, to be part of the solution and to see a positive change, especially in issues concerning girls and women who suffer a lot of gender-related injustices.
3. What have you studied?
International trade and I did a Master in Business Administration (MBA) with a minor in entrepreneurship, at the Francisco Marroquin University, which gave me the tools to work in the flower industry for over 20 years.
4. What did you do before you started working at WBE?
For many years I worked for Corporación Tak, a company that produces different types of leaf. I was the Marketing Manager, it helped me to know and understand the world of agriculture and production, as well as the needs of the customers on the market side.
5. What department do you work at WBE?
Regional manager for WBE International, Latin America branch.
What does your average working day look like?
In communication with WBE Netherlands, we receive instructions, orders and requirements for the producers. Responding and solving WBE´s needs, being their representatives in the region, by assisting the suppliers so that they understand the market.
Keeping a closer presence, reinforcing the business relationship and giving support in matters as quality, market needs and product specifications. Giving immediate response to the suppliers in everyday issues being that we are on the same time frame, speak the same language and share the same culture.
What do you like most about your job?
That is never static, every day brings new challenges. I love working with nature, people and different cultures. I also feel very proud to be part of the WBE´s work philosophy of respect, transparency, the understanding that every “link in the chain” is important and has to be taken care of in order to be successful.
What do you like least about your job?
When there is a crisis in the economy or natural disasters making the whole chain suffer with drop in sales and problems in production, causing losses in the companies, therefore affecting employees and their families that depend on this income on both sides. Matters beyond anyone's control.
What is your favorite product? Why?
Aralia, because it is a strong, shiny, dark green, resistant leaf that keeps its beauty for many weeks.
Also like Green bouquets, the combination of different products in them.
10. Do you have any ambitions within WBE?
Yes, I am always open to new challenges, changes and expansions; to be able to keep learning, adapting and having the opportunity to positively influence families that depend on the jobs WBE generates.
