Every second Saturday in August is the time: the Flower Parade Rijnsburg. Floats, music wagons, cars decorated with flowers and bands drive through Rijnsburg, Katwijk and Noordwijk.
Every year, this special parade attracts more than 350,000 visitors. And again this year, during the hot temperatures last weekend, the streets were filled with spectators.
Theme
Every year there is a theme to the Flower Parade, this year that theme was: Party!
Not for nothing, because there were several reasons for Celebration. For example, after 2 years of corona, the Flower Parade was finally allowed to ride again, the 75th anniversary was celebrated and the Flower Parade, along with other corsos in the Netherlands, was declared an International Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Enough reasons for celebration!
WBE also had another beautiful car this edition of the Flower Parade. The car had the theme "Tropical Party" and that came out beautifully. Not only we, but also the jury thought so because our car ran away with the innovation prize.
Flower Designer Femke Lek went to work with our cut foliage. From the real eye-catchers like the big Kentia palm from Sri Lanka to the beautiful King Protea's from South Africa. Femke made it a real party.
Program
Friday, August 12, the Feast began. The opening of the Flower Parade was done by Sinterklaas, because what party is more Dutch than Sinterklaas? He handed out the various prizes and thanked all the volunteers. Then it was possible to look at the beautiful floats and cars.
Saturday, August 13, was the day. The Flower Parade was underway. From Rijnsburg to Katwijk and ending in Noordwijk. During the ride there were extras on the various floats that matched the car and flowers were handed out along the side of the road.
On August 14, floats filled with flowers and cut foliage could still be admired in Noordwijk.
All in all, it was truly a Party! The theme for next year has also already been decided: Wonders of Nature. We are looking forward to seeing next year's designs.
